Officially established in 1981 by the United Nations, the International Day of Peace has been celebrated by people all across the world with ceasefires and efforts towards non-violence. Each year also comes with a unique theme, focusing on issues that affect the world.

This year for #peaceday, the theme is “Climate Action for Peace” and will be focusing on the way that climate change can be a factor for world peace (which includes us here in Scottsdale!).

Let’s Talk About Modern Plumbing

Although we don’t often take the time to sit and think about it, our modern plumbing system is one of the main reasons that we have the functional society that we do today. It affects nearly every facet of our lives – from our personal hygiene to the way we wash our clothes, to the way we prepare our food.

Without modern plumbing, we wouldn’t have toilets that we could flush (and sanitary living conditions), instant hot water, or underground sewage systems. The start of the discussion on this International Day of Peace should begin with gratitude at how lucky we are here in Arizona, many other countries do not have it so lucky!

What Are Water Droughts?

Water droughts dramatically affect people all across the world, not only today but every day. Climate change has caused water droughts that are both more severe and that last longer, and cost both people and businesses millions of dollars yearly.

The impact of droughts on the population and the way that affects world peace should not be underestimated on the International Day of Peace.

As greenhouse emissions increase, the potential for droughts also exponentially increases. The United Nations classifies this as a natural disaster, and efforts to conserve water should be placed at the forefront of any conversation about climate change.

How Clean Water Can Influence World Peace

While many people think that world peace is a faraway and unreachable thing, the people behind the International Day of Peace don’t believe that to be true. Clean water and our modern plumbing system can only be maintained by taking care of the world that we call home.

That requires that we all unite together as one people for a common goal, to fight climate change and to save our planet. The Global Peace Index is a great way to keep track of how close we are to reaching that goal.

Recently, the index has been declining but, with all of our help, we can get it to increase again. Water is essential to our drive for world peace. If we focus on communities that still do not have clean water, we will ultimately lift all of us up.

Join us here at Zest Plumbing & Drain in celebrating the UN’s International Day of Peace. If you have any questions about how to help, or for assistance in updating your own plumbing system, give us a call today. We’d love to help Scottsdale become a leader in saving the Earth.
